Irish Lass

After Scrappy Plus, I thought I was done with 2 1/2 inch squares for a while. In fact, I would have been happy to do anything but 2 1/2 inch squares.

And then I decided to tackle Irish Lass. Ha! Sometimes I make myself laugh!

Surprise, surprise! Irish Lass has been enjoyable to piece!

There is enough going on to keep my brain humming and happy, but not so much as to cause stress. As I work, I think about the quilting to come. For me, that is the point of this project.

Working on two blocks at a time allowed me to chain piece, but still keep everything in order. Each little square has its own place in the big picture, so I had to pay attention.

Blocks are numbered to indicate their position in the quilt.

I love how lively my screen printed fabrics look!

Building a test unit on the table motivated me to keep going!

Blocks went up on the design wall without a hitch.

Labels guide placement on the design wall.
This is where I left off yesterday.

Piecing done! Borders next.
I'm hoping there is a suitable backing fabric in my cupboard so I can load up and get quilting without having to piece something elaborate. Fingers crossed!

To be continued...!

    1. Thank you! I am following the pattern and using the quilting designs from Judy Madsen's book, "Quilting Wide Open Spaces", so it's just a matter of execution. I have a long arm, but haven't done much custom work yet. Learning and practice is the purpose of this quilt!

  2. Love the fabrics you've used, and that you purposely (?) misplaced one of the blocks on the last row. Lovely quilt!

    1. D-oh! No, nope, nopey-nope. I did not do that on purpose! Thanks for catching it...I'm not going to leave it like that, even if it adds charm. It will mess up the quilting plan! Ha! (Where's my seam ripper?)
      Thanks for the fresh perspective!

    1. Thanks! I am committed to using what I have, so pull fabrics together that I may not have thought to combine before. That is why my home printed fabrics got into this mix, and I'm glad they did! It's time they were put to use!

  4. Great design Carole! Okay, I didn't notice the one on the bottom was placed differently, until I read the previous comments! I hope it didn't take you too much time to fix! Can't wait to see how you quilt this!

    1. Thank goodness for observant people - it didn't take me long to fix because it was caught before I even had the borders on. Thanks for taking time to visit, and for leaving such a nice comment, Lindsey!
